"Don't know whether you would have known that it was my grandmother, Aunt Jane, and her husband who were killed on Mother's Day 1949 in the crash of a private plane in Buffalo, Mo. My Aunt Mary (now 100 yrs old) was the sole survivor."

"My Aunt Jane was killed in the plane crash.(Martha Jane) There was no infant. Her husband Harold Rose was the pilot and they had flown to Hutchinson, KS to visit my grandmother's sister. They were on their way back to Marshall, when the plane ran out of gas."

Jane was born in Illinois to Ben Forsythe and Ruth Ettie Laufman Forsythe.

She was a bookkeeper for Craft Cheese Company in Illinois.

Jane, her husband, Harold and her mother, Ettie were killed in a plane crash on Mother's Day, 1949. Harold was the pilot and they had flown to Hutchison, Kansas to visit relatives. On the return flight, to Marshall, Illinois, the plane ran out of fuel and went down.

Martha's obituary appeared in the The Terre Haute Tribune, Tuesday, 10 May 1949, page 2. It reads:

Marshall, IL - Joint funeral services for three well-known residents of Marshall killed in a plane crash Sunday at buffalo, MO, will be held at the Marshall Methodist church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.

Rev. H. J. Kemp and Rev. John E. Evans will officiate, and burial will be in Forsythe cemetery, north of here. Bodies of the victims, Mrs. Etta Forsythe, 74 years old; her daughter, Mrs. Martha Rose, 31 years old, and son-in-law, Harold Rose, 31 years old, arrived here and were taken to the Marrs Funeral Home. They will remain at the funeral home until 12:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, at which time they will be taken to the chuch for services at 2 o'clock.

Mrs. Mary Ward, 43 years old, Chicago, another daughter of Mrs. Forsythe, was reported as resting well in a hospital at Springfield, MO.

Mrs. Ward, a passenger in the plane, suffered two broken arms and is reported as suffering from shcok as a result of the accident.
